Pietermaritzburg is celebrating 185 years of existence!

Pietermaritzburg, the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, is celebrating its 185th anniversary this year. 

It is a city with a rich history and culture, and is a major centre of industry, commerce, and education in the province.

In true fashion, the Msunduzi Municipality has set out to do amazing things for the city in KwaZulu-Natal. 

According to The Witness, in celebration of the 185th anniversary of Pietermaritzburg, the Msunduzi Municipality has set out to upgrade the traffic circles around the city.

Various traffic circles throughout the city have undergone colourful transformations.

Ntobeko Mkhize, who is the Municipality spokesperson, stated that the traffic circle transformation was part of the plan to celebrate the city of PMB. 

"It is in line with the city’s 185-year celebration. However, it is a programme the city plans to revive and maintain going forward", says Mkhize.

Besides the remodeling of the traffic circle, the city is being cleaned on a daily basis to maintain and nurture residents’ sense of pride in Pietermaritzburg.
