KwaDukuza halts waste management services due to COVID-19

Officials in KwaDukuza say refuse collection and cleaning services have been suspended in parts of the municipality due to the high number of COVID-19 infections among municipal workers.

The municipality says services will be on hold until next week Monday.

Spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize says they are overwhelmed by the high infection rate among workers - and have been left with no other choice.
"As a safety measure, we have decided to halt the waste management service in the northern part of KwaDukuza, formerly known as Stanger.
"We want to take the waste management team in that area to a testing facility. We do appeal for calm. The situation is beyond our control," says Mkhize.
