East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game kicked off this morning, with celebrities and sports stars attending the launch at the station’s headquarters in Umhlanga this morning.

The annual CSI campaign is aimed at giving joy by providing every child in a government hospital, children’s home and orphanage in KwaZulu-Natal with a brand new toy.

Cash donations to East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game help sustain child-headed households over the long end-of-year school holidays. Each food parcel costs R350 and can feed a family of four people for six weeks.

Sharkie joined Sharks players Jean-Luc du Preez, Daniel du Preez and Khaya Majola and musicians Kyle Deutch and Sketchy Bongo and Aewon Wolf in supporting this morning’s launch of the campaign which is now in its 15th year.

“We are always incredibly humbled by the kindness and generosity shown by people from all across KZN during this annual initiative,” says East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu.

“Listeners go all out to help us and our key sponsor, Game, make a difference in the lives of KZN’s disadvantaged children as we work towards building a better society for KZN.”

Speaking at the launch, Mchunu also extended her heartfelt thanks to the stakeholders who make this year’s social outreach programme possible, namely Game, Dawn Wing, Red Cross Air Mercy Services and Champ Marketing.

“Game is delighted to be part of the East Coast Toy Story for the fifth year running,” says Game Marketing and Customer Director, Mark Turner.

“This is one of the campaigns that are close to our hearts as it proof of the heights that can be attained through the collective efforts of the people of South Africa. East Coast Toy Story reminds us that we all have an important duty to play in ensuring the well-being of disadvantaged children, it is always so heart-warming to see the smile that a toy or a much needed meal can bring to the face of a child. We believe that the contributions made will make a tangible difference in the lives of the children.”

Last year, KZN listeners, schools  and businesses donated 31 000 new toys and more than R1.7 million to East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game, which funded 4685 food parcels.
