Year in Review: The most haunted places in KZN!

It might not be Halloween anymore, but these places are scary all year round!

Horror movies, creative costumes, and sweet treats are usually the way to go when celebrating the scariest night of the year.

But instead of bringing you a best-dressed list for Halloween this year, we decided to rather give you a warning.

Or a recommendation depending on which way you choose to look at it.

So if you're looking to hang out with some ghouls and ghosts right here in KZN, we have you covered!

First up is the most famous haunted building in KZN - Nottingham Road Hotel.

This hotel has been around for many years and so has their resident ghoul.

Charlotte was either a guest or an employee of the hotel. She was in love with a soldier who had died during the Second Anglo-Boer War. She decided to jump from the balcony of room 10 and she later died of complications to her broken leg.

She is known for roaming the hallways and showing her presence in small ways like rearranging flowers, but is in no way evil.

Next up is Ghost Mountain Inn, Fish Eagle Road

As the legend goes, the name of the mountain was given by western explorers, who would see strange lights flicker and heard wailing sounds from the top.

The reason, it is believed, is that there are spirits spending their time there because the chiefs of Mozambique would be carried back and buried on Ghost Mountain after their death.

And last but not least: St Elmo's Convent, Umzumbe

This is known to be a ghost hunter's dream.

The Catholic convent was used as a retreat for nuns as well as a remedial school for children with learning disabilities.

It was eventually closed due to lack of funding, and now almost every window is broken and has been completely stripped.

According to Phoenix Paranormal South Africa, the convent is possessed by the spirits of former priests and nuns who refuse to leave. Witnesses have claimed that they experienced heavy breathing, objects falling, and unexplained footsteps

There are also a few other eerie areas you could visit if you're looking for more adventure: The City Oval Stadium, Victoria Mansions, The Playhouse Company's Theatre, and The 'Spookhouse'.
