It's been said that people can do some crazy things when they are desperate and under pressure.

And we have to agree with the belief. Due to the financial crisis that hit Lebanon three years ago, the banks have locked many depositors out of their savings accounts.

This has led to many people acting out of desperation and taking the law into their own hands.

One such situation was with Sally Hafez, a woman who was pushed to her wits end.

Since she was unable to retrieve her savings from the bank, and had exhausted any other possibility of getting money, she decided to hold up the bank.

The thing is it wasn't for some mediocre reason, her sister has been diagnosed with cancer and needed treatment.

"Around 11:00 am on Wednesday, a woman later identified by her mother as Sali Hafiz, and carrying what appeared to be a gun, entered BLOM Bank in Beirut's Sodeco neighborhood and demanded access to her funds, a security source told Reuters." (MSN)

"I have nothing more to lose, I got to the end of the road. I went to the branch manager two days ago and said my sister is dying, she doesn't have time," she said, adding that the amount that she had been offered was inadequate.

"I got to a point where I was going to sell my kidney so that my sister could receive treatment." (MSN)

When people are faced with desperate times, they can certainly be forced to act out in ways that are seen as unbecoming. This is what happened here. And there have also been other reports of people holding up other banks in Lebanon.

Here's another video showing her and her accomplice retrieving the money from bank employees.
