We love dining out. It is the one thing that allows us to feel close to normal when it comes to celebrating pre-pandemic times. But when it comes to eating out there is obviously the chance of having your hopes shattered when you get an unexpected visitor whilst enjoying your meal.

And, no, we are not talking about a friend who showed up unannounced, we are talking a creepy crawly that decided to make an appearance in your food! So while you are busy enjoying your meal, you look down and see something that is definitely not a twig of rosemary...

We are sad to say this but this happens more often than we care to talk about. There is always that one person in the group that has had a traumatising experience with a rodent or insect that has either run across their table, or worse, infused themselves in their soup.

This is what happened to this patron, who went out for a nice dinner and found a cricket floating around in his soup. He even named and shamed the restaurant, but this is not in South Africa so you don't need to worry about it.

You would think that would be the opening for other customers to come through and share their bug floating experiences, but quite the opposite. It was previous staff members that came forward sharing their horrifying experiences.

“I just quit my job at Olive Garden last week… yeah trust me there’s worse than that,” one commenter wrote in response.

“I used to work there years ago,” one commenter alleged. “Rats used to nibble through the breadstick plastic and they would still bake and serve it.”

Others alleged that on their visits to Olive Garden, they had found other things in their food. “The last time my family went was six years ago when both my mom and I found hair in ours,” a commenter wrote.
