Are you aware of your surroundings when you are walking on the pavement?

Being a pedestrian requires you to be as present and aware as being a driver. As much as that sounds crazy, take a moment to think about it. Whether it involves crossing the road, getting into a vehicle or merely walking on the pavement.

All these things require you to be present. Being a pedestrian is as much a stress as being a driver. In fact, in light of the amount of pedestrian accidents that take place, we would honestly recommend that people take road safety tests on how to be safe as a pedestrian.

There's no sure way of saying that one or the other is to blame in the many accidents that take place on our roads, nationally and internationally, but to remain negligent sure doesn't help anybody.

An incident took place at the end of last week that got us thinking about pedestrian safety.

The accident took place at the "corner of Mooi Street, shows one taxi speeding across an intersection. Another minibus can be seen pacing its way steadily across the junction, and unfortunately, their paths collided. Approaching from the left, one vehicle slams head-first into the side of his fellow taxi driver. This forces both of the motors off the road, heading in the same direction. A startled pedestrian is alerted by the sounds of grinding metal, and without a second to lose, takes evasive action." The pedestrian acted quickly and therefore there were no injuries.

Many people came to the post on Twitter saying that this must be the third incident that has happened at the same intersection in a matter of weeks. This is just another thing that road safety officials and authorities should pay attention to.

We hope that in whichever way you transport yourself, you are cautious, not just for yourself but for others on the road as well.

Drive and walk safely...
