Car remote jamming is definitely real and still quite prevalent...

Crime ridden South Africa is sadly what we know our country to be. It's a norm to be exposed to crime in one way or the other. But that doesn't mean that seeing acts of crime being committed doesn't leave us feeling irate and angry at the society we live in.

It's the entitlement of crime, the fact that these criminals put their own means before the person they are stealing from. It's the organised crime, the lurkers, the violence, and well-thought-out plans that just marinades the fear in us...

Car remote jamming has long become something that all motorists are warned about. A seamless crime of sorts, that is so subtle yet the effects have such ramifications...

It involves a "jamming device which looks very similar to a remote control and is usually hidden in a cigarette box, is set to the same frequency as your car remote. Once you exit your vehicle the criminals press the button, effectively blocking your remote control from locking the vehicle." (Netstar)

In case you missed it, the owner of the car did in fact check that his car door was locked, which is something we are encouraged to do as vehicle owners.

But before he got out of the car, the driver in the white polo reached out and opened the back door, so even though the owner locked his car and checked it, the back door was already unlatched. Which gave way for them to steal the laptop without breaking into the car.

The sneaky opening of the door and the cool, calm approach of the suspect who takes the bag out the back seat, is what leaves us shocked. The way he waved at the one of the petrol attendants not to seem suspicious, or to draw attention to himself is ironic.

The irony in it all is that so many criminals walk amongst us in society and we don't even notice them. They blend into society, going unnoticed, passing through like the general public. The difficulty is that we are unable to distinguish them from the everyday person...
