Have you ever used a sick day without being sick?

Have you ever used a sick day without being sick?

We recently came across a post that spoke about calling in to say you are well and asking your boss for a 'wellness' day.

We cannot say with certainty that there is anyone out there who hasn't used a sick day when they weren't actually sick, but we are sure that there must be someone.

The level of integrity and loyalty that some possess is impeccable and could be looked upon as a desirable trait.

A video has left us us thinking about sick days and the legitimacy behind taking these days. In the video, a group of passengers disembark from an airplane.

The text overlay read: "Messaged my boss to call in sick only to find he on the same flight"

The video not only got us thinking about sick days, but it also got us thinking about the culture around sick days.

Over and above seeing comments like this:

"I called in sick a time and went to the casino and saw my boss waving at me by the roulette machines". We we feeling some kind of way about the amount of days that people get to check their mental health.

Wellness days. As a society, we are slowly moving into a place of comfort when it comes to speaking about our mental health without feeling guilty or bad. It is real and it has always been, but the concept of caring for your mental health hasn't always been a priority in the workplace.

We recently came across a post on social media that stuck with us. It read something along the lines of: "Life is short, call your boss and take a 'wellness' day, why do you have to be sick to enjoy a day off to do what you want."

Now, we are not by any means advocating for calling in sick when you aren't actually sick. But we do feel like it is important to take time to heal your mental health in the same way you would any physical illness.

Take a minute to let that marinate and practice a healthier version of you this 2024!
