Sometimes it pays to try out some of these life hacks that are actually quite practical.

For instance, when it comes to fresh produce, one of the leading causes in wastage is incorrect storage.

This and other tips can help save you money and we can all say we love saving money wherever possible...

1. To avoid potatoes from sprouting roots when storing them in baskets, simply add in two apples to the pile and cover with a tea towel.

2. Instead of wasting so much of the pineapple with peeling of the rugged skin. Simply cut off the ends and then slice downward horizontally and then the other way. Follow the pattern of the skin, so it would look like a diamond. This is both a hygienic and easier way of consuming this juicy and vibrant fruit, and has minimal wastage.

3. Don't have a cake cutter? Use the back of your salad or braai tongs. It cuts the cake perfectly and there are no crummies...

4. Use a pencil sharpener to sharpen a drinking straw, and you can twist this around loose chords behind your appliances or devices. The above one is a great way of ensuring that you reuse plastic instead of discarding it.

5. Don't have a mini vacuum cleaner to get to those hard to reach corners? Cut the top part of a cooldrink bottle, place a folded piece of tissue towel inside the open part, and push the back of your hairdryer into the bottle. Switch on and you have yourself a homemade vacuum...
