Crab climbs out of packed tray at supermarket

We've heard of crabs playing dead, but this is next level...

When buying seafood, many people make it a habit to ask when the seafood was caught.

This is their way of enquiring about the freshness of the product.

A video that attests to the freshness of a crab that had already been packaged and laid out for sale at a supermarket has left everyone shocked.

In the video, we see trays of whole crabs packed up neatly in what looks like the inside of an open freezer.

Then, suddenly, we see a crab break free from its plastic housing and stretch its legs. The crab then crouches back down into the tray and we cannot see its eyes anymore. Perhaps as a defence mechanism it plays dead?

What's worse is the person videoing pans to another crab in a tray and that crab also tears through the plastic housing and peeks out.

A shorter snippet of the above was shared on the Daily Mail TikTok page and people were upset, not to mention concerned.

Many believed these crabs were being ill-treated and were placed in the trays with the hopes of them suffocating. We're not sure about all that, but we do know that this is as close to freshness as you can get.

We think crabs are one of the smartest creatures out there, so, perhaps they played dead and actually weren't and this was a result of their great acting skills...
