The bonus of not getting a 13th cheque

The bonus of not getting a 13th cheque

"What you learn about what you earn when you work for Me, Myself, and I." ~ Capo Cassidy

We cannot say with conviction that there is an employee who is not happy to receive a bonus at the end of the year.

Of course, many employees look forward to their 13th cheque, some even set out their plans at the beginning of the year. We have to admit it is a bonus that we all would appreciate at this time of the year.

But finance writer, Capo Cassidy has shared that life is more than a bonus cheque at the end of the year.

Cassidy shares that ever since stepping off the corporate treadmill, this year-end is one without a bonus.

Many people can relate to Cassidy's position. Besides people's evolution into working for themselves, there is the very blatant elephant in the room, companies are not all able to give employees a bonus this year.

Cassidy shares with us a very honest and humble approach to not working for a corporation. Since leaving, Cassidy has become more cognisant of the value of money.

"When I received a monthly salary, I became disconnected from the actual cost and value of things. I would spend without considering the consequences, thinking there would always be more money, even if it meant relying on credit." (Change Exchange)

We are somewhat certain that many people think along those lines and have now had to tighten their belt strings due to several circumstances.

"It’s different now that I am self-employed and my earnings vary. Even in the months when I earn more than my old corporate salary, I am more mindful of my expenses." (Change Exchange)

"The experience of earning money has become more personal, which has changed my perspective on spending. It is now a multi-layered and intricate process, unlike the simplicity of receiving a fixed salary from someone else." (Change Exchange)

Cassidy's candid response to life without a bonus has allowed us to see that life is more than that 13th cheque. Spending money more mindfully is something everyone can attest to.

It seems that without that constant promise of money from the ex-corporation, Cassidy says, "Stepping away from the machine and the busyness of corporate life has taught me what I really value, and that feels like the biggest bonus I could hope for." (Change Exchange)
