South Africans urged to think twice when Christmas shopping

South African consumers have been warned not to blow their December salary or year-end bonus on festive season shopping.

Financial advisor at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings, Tshego Bokaba, has cautioned consumers shopping for Christmas to think twice before spending and to plan for January.
"People get caught up in the spirit of holidays. They end up overspending on gifts, unnecessary activities and a lot of unplanned things."

She says drawing up a budget and sticking to it will help people avoid the festive season splurge and make their salaries last until payday next year.
"Typically, people get paid early in December, and they forget that that salary has to carry them until the end of January, so they just get caught up in this excitement, forgetting that January is coming."
