Banana art piece that sold for R2million can be "replaced"

The piece made headlines when it was presented at Art Basel Miami.

In December 2019 the world was shocked when an art piece was unveiled at the Art Basel Miami exhibition.

What was so shocking? That the piece consisted of a banana duct-taped to a wall. That's it!

It was created by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and is called 'Comedian'.

Now the world's most famous banana has been anonymously donated to one of the biggest museums in the world, the New York Guggenheim Museum.

Richard Armstrong, the museum director, mentioned how grateful they are to receive the artpiece and how "little stress" it offers.

Lena Stringari, the chief conservator of the Guggenheim, has also revealed what the instructions are for taking care of the piece.

Apparently the only instructions are how often to change the banana and how high it should be installed.

She also mentioned it's probably the simplest work he has ever dealt with, as she just has to pop into the closest shop and buy one banana.

It has not been specified exactly when the banana will be going on display, but Stringari will be ready to go to the market.
