Tertiary education vs work experience: Which would you choose?

Getting an education is important in helping you land the right job, but work experience is important too. Between the two, which is the better option to choose?

However, for David, even after the degree, he battled with finding employment like so many young South Africans out there. Thankfully for him, he eventually managed to get an internship where he'll be earning R2,000 a month - it's not a lot, but I guess it's better than nothing?

After reading the article and seeing the comments, it really got me thinking about the age-old debate of which is better: tertiary education or work experience? Let's be honest, both are equally important. I mean, without the education, how else can these youngsters gain knowledge to do what they need to?

Work experience is equally important. Employers are constantly on the lookout for employees to enter their workforce with some experience of the job, without having to train them - which could end up costing a fortune. After all, they are running a business and incurring high training costs could really reduce the bottom line profits.

So, youngsters like David these days seem to be in a pickle. It's either they have the qualification and no experience, or enough experience and no qualification. I mean, can they ever win?!
