Education is low priority in SA: Lehohla
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
Statistician-General Pali Lehohla says one of the main reasons why economic growth in the country is slow is due to South Africans not prioritising education.

Speaking at the release of a report on poverty and economic growth in Durban today, Lehohla said some people are content with just a matric certificate and no further qualifications and skills needed to be a part of a competitive workforce.
Lehohla says this compounds poverty.
"Priorities as far as education is concerned are very low. We are targeting that they've done matric - that's all or they've gone through primary - that's all. You have a society whose bar is that low.

"Affordability is secondary. What's important is the desire to be educated to the highest level," he says.
