#BlackFriday: Jane's top 5 things to remember when shopping

"There are a couple of things I need to remember before hitting the malls on Black Friday," says self-confessed shopaholic Jane Linley-Thomas.

Can you believe that it's time again for Black Friday? Where has the year gone?!

The shopping frenzy that is Black Friday is going to have many South Africans excited to hunt for those deals before the festive season arrives.

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love shopping, however, this girl is going to be staying far away from the shopping frenzy this year.

Although I won't be participating in Black Friday, I do have some experience in shopping and wanted to share my top five things to remember before the biggest shopping day of the year:

Pace yourself

Getting yourself into a frenzy is going to help nothing and no one. A mall is a big place and if you have time on your hands, you can get through it all - you just need to pace yourself.

If you're taking your kids, keep them close to you

While you're excited by the amazing Black Friday deals out there, it's easy to get distracted. If it means you putting your kid on a leash, or throwing them into the trolley with your other shopping, do it. Let's remember to keep them safe

Don't shop on an empty stomach

Keep hydrated and make sure you eat. You sure as hell don't want to faint, or worse - make a bad shopping decision that could cause you to break the bank.

Keep your emotions at bay

Shopping can be a stressful situation, especially on Black Friday when it's chaotic in the malls. Remember it's going to be busy, so you can't avoid that. Rather focus your energy or hunting for the best deal that the shops have to offer rather than worrying yourself over the woman who stole your trolley.

Plan, plan, plan

You may have noticed this week that your community newspaper would have been jam-packed with leaflets from stores advertising their Black Friday items. Spend the night before the 'big day' going through the newspaper to troll for what's on special. Tear out what you have your eye on and keep it safely inside your handbag. That way it makes it easier for you to get in, grab what you want, and get out.

Be safe out there and, more importantly, enjoy it. Happy shopping!
