It's an American tradition that marks the start of the festive shopping season.

Game's CEO, Albert Voogd says 90 of their stores will open at midnight tomorrow - meaning hours of early morning shopping for consumers.

"We have huge amount of stock in our stores - more than ever in the history of Game. Most of the deals will continue on Saturday and Sunday. Every till be opened, we have packers for our customers and we have a lot of people to help bring the products to the store, as well as to the cars to support the customers," Voogd said.

Many online traders will take part in the shopping frenzy as well. Pick 'n Pay's John Bradshaw says some items have been marked down by up to 60%.

"We released some online deals earlier. I have never seen so much excitement about the promotion of Pick 'n Pay. We want customers to be able to get the deal that they are looking for so we've put in a huge amount of stock. People are going to see eye-watering deals," Bradshaw said.

Meanwhile, the Shoprite Group says extensive planning ahead of Black Friday commenced months ago. Management says deals were carefully selected to offer customers real and substantial savings.

The group says additional security will be brought in to assist with crowd control  and maintain orderly queues both inside and outside the stores.

Meanwhile, Durban's Metro police unit says plans are in place to manage the expected increase in traffic around busy shopping malls on Friday.
