WATCH: Cassper Nyovest starts #SaveNompilo campaign for cystic fibrosis patient

The rapper is choosing to use his social media platform for a good cause.

Only in recent years have celebrities truly realised the reach they have when it comes to their social media platforms.

Whether we want to admit it or not, people are easily influenced and when we see one of our favourite stars promoting or supporting something, we are much more likely to also get into it.

So it really sits well with us when we see an influential person using this to promote healthy and positive things.

Local rapper Cassper Nyovest very recently did exactly this with a social media campaign he chose to launch.

Nyovest had just dropped his most recent album, 'Sweet and Short 2.0', which was a complete surprise, but that wasn't the only surprise he had in store for fans and followers.

Over the weekend, he posted the same video on all his social media profiles.

In the video, Cassper asks people to help a woman called Nompilo Dlamini.

Nompilo is from Swaziland and she has cystic fibrosis.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website: "Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time."

There is also no cure for cystic fibrosis, although there are treatments that help improve the lives of those with the disease.

Nompilo is hoping to get a very expensive but lifesaving surgery and transplant, but unfortunately she does not have the money to fund the operation. She needs R2-million for not only the specific procedure, but to also cover all her overdue medical bills and debt.

Somehow, Cassper heard about her story and got in contact with her. After some conversations and learning more about her condition, he made a video and uploaded it onto his Instagram and Twitter accounts, which have a combined following of 7.9-million people. Quite the audience.

After the first initial video, Nompilo has received an influx of support and donations.

But just when you thought, "Anyone can make a video and share it, that's not really helping her or taking action, is it?", Cassper comes and pulls another trick out of his sleeve.

The star not only used his massive platform and influence to highlight a good cause, which in this case is helping save someone from a life-threatening illness, but also donated a HUGE amount of money.

R150,000 isn't just petty cash. That truly is life-changing money.

Hopefully, many more will be inspired by her story, she will reach her goal and then she'll get her new, healthy lungs!
