Residents of Durban North are being cautioned about a scam circulating in the area. A man claiming to be a SAPS officer, known as "Captain Govender," has been approaching residents in Sunningdale and Durban North, asking for cash donations for various causes.

However, this individual is not affiliated with the SAPS and is using fake letters with the SAPS logo to deceive people.

The scammer may approach you with a letter claiming to be for:

  • Fundraising purposes

  • Social feeding schemes

  • Sandwich drives

He may request a donation of R20 or more. Be aware that the scammer may use different variations of his rank or station to deceive people.

If you encounter this individual, do not give him any money. Instead, contact the station commander at the Durban North SAPS.

Remember, legitimate organisations and authorities will never ask for donations in such a manner. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
