Be safe whereever you are going, especially during the festive time of year...

Safety is always a concern for anyone travelling on their own, but the concern somehow escalates at this time of year.

The festive season brings with it happy times, and jolly moods but crime doesn't sleep during this time of year. It is advisable to be more aware around this time of year.

A woman from Johannesburg who took to TikTok recently shared how this time last year she was almost abducted by a taxi driver.

Watch her share her story below, courtesy of TikTok

@vchilimanzi @Goddess Energy @Goddess Energy Be careful as you move this December. Bolt drivers are dangerous! #bolt #remotework #uberdriverstories #bolttaxi #boltdriver #boltdrivers ♬ original sound - Goddess Energy

What was scarier than hearing her story was to see another woman's comment saying,

"this happened to me today. the taxi driver drove off with me & my friend. had to lower the window & started shouting that he is kidnapping us."

Then people started sharing their viewpoints.

  • "this happened to me today. the bolt driver drove off with me & my friend. had to lower the window & started shouting that he is kidnapping us."
  • I’ve been using (popular private taxi company)  since back then and haven’t experienced any of this and I think it’s time I switch to (popular private taxi company) before I learn the hard way
  • I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Now I am worried cause I use (this private taxi service) since we don't have (other private taxi services) in Bloem and lately Bloem is not safe

Be safe out there, unfortunately, some people have bad intentions.

  • Make sure to check the driver's credentials.
  • Check that the door is not child lock before the vehicle starts moving.
  • Before the car starts moving call a friend or family member and tell them where you are, the name of the driver, the license plate number and where you are going. This will also scare the driver if they want to do something.
  • Always follow your instincts.
