Run4Ramsgate: An initiative to restore beauty

The Ramsgate Ratepayers Association is working hard to raise funds to beautify their village street before December.

The community of Ramsgate are up and at 'em, taking matters into their own hands in a fun and enjoyable way.

They have started a campaign to give their village main street an upgrade, one they deem to be “much needed”.

Aptly named Run4Ramsgate, the community is working hard to raise enough funds to bring the beauty back to their beloved home town.

Sarah Unsworth of the Ramsgate Ratepayers Association spoke with East Coast Radio about this initiative, which started in March.

“We are calling on friends of Ramsgate to help raise funds by challenging each other to run or walk 5km (or more). We have had people run in London and Perth, as well as here at home,” she explained.

Getting involved is simple. Pledge a kilometre (in any currency) on BackaBuddy or donate any amount that feels right to you.

Want to make it more fun? Challenge a friend – whether they're down the road or across the globe – to do the same.

The aim is to raise R100,000 by July 18, 2025, to transform their main street. So far, on BackaBuddy alone, they have raised just over R20,000.

If you’re struggling to use the crowdfunding campaign website, the Run4Ramsgate organisers have made it easy for you. Click here to view a PDF that explains how to donate.

The team is also hosting a fun run (or walk) along the picturesque Ramsgate Ramble on June 14. If you’re not in the area, the Run4Ramsgate team are encouraging you to “lace up and run your own route” from wherever you are in the world.

Why is the end date in July?

According to Unsworth, they’ve chosen July to give them sufficient time to complete all upgrades before the December holiday season.

Run4Ramsgate is very open about their plans. If you’re curious, click here to access the Ramsgate Village improvement project presentation.
