Pennington man has been fixing potholes for 11 years

While visiting the small town, Brent Lindeque met 83-year-old Tony Hoggins – a local hero who’s been repairing the town’s potholes for over 11 years.

In the small coastal town of Pennington, Brent Lindeque crossed paths with 83-year-old Tony Hoggins, who has dedicated the last 11 and a half years to fixing its potholes.
Hoggins took matters into his own hands with the potholes in the area because “no one else is going to fix it”.
He funds the repairs himself and does all the work single-handedly – in his trusty maroon bakkie.
According to Lindeque, Hoggins is a familiar face in the area. Locals have seen him drop everything to fix a pothole, and children often wave as he drives by in his maroon bakkie.
Some even send him donations because they know he won’t ask.
“If everybody did their little part in front of their own homes, or in their streets, or communities, then South Africa would be a very different place,” he told Lindeque.
