Community to the rescue: Malvern CPF organises refuse removal for residents

Over the weekend, the Malvern Community Policing Forum put together refuse removal for the Queensburgh area.

They had a number of collection points for residents over the weekend.

Taking to social media, they shared a post noting various spots from Moseley to Hillary which were used as collection points. These points were open from 7:00 to 11:00 on 10 March.

We spoke to Malvern CPF Chairman Kevin Pillay:

The Malvern CPF, in conjunction with Ocean Light Shipping, removed refuse bags from various areas. They also managed to hire eight general labourers to assist with loading and offloading the trucks.

They shared images on Facebook of the cleaning progress as it went on.

Following the successful cleanup, Malvern CPF noted that the landfill site closed at 15:30 which, unfortunately, led to a temporary pile-up at the local Civic Centre.

They further requested that all residents refrain from dropping off more refuse, asking that people keep their refuse at home until further notice.

Members from the South African Municipal Workers Union downed tools at the end of February, demanding a salary increase in line with other municipalities.

Since then, there have been disruptions in refuse collection, street sweeping, and clinic operations.
