eHome Affairs guide: Book your slot
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
Say goodbye to long queues! Here’s how to apply for your ID and passport online using the eHome Affairs platform and book a time slot at a bank branch near you.

The eHomeAffairs platform is a more convenient way to apply for smart IDs and passports in South Africa. While it has been running for quite some time, there’s still some confusion surrounding how to use it.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use the platform and book a time slot at a bank branch.
To begin, register on the eHomeAffairs platform by providing your name, surname, ID number, date of birth, email address, and phone number. This information is required to verify your login through two-factor authentication.
Application Process
1. Sign in: Log in to your account using your credentials and one-time PIN sent to your phone or email.
2. Create New Application: Click the "Create New Application" button and select whether the application is for yourself or someone else.
3. Fill Out the Form: The system will auto-populate most fields, but you'll need to provide additional information, such as:
- Citizenship Details: Indicate how you became a South African citizen (by birth, descent, naturalisation, etc.)
- Personal Details: Provide your country of citizenship, birth town, residential and postal address
- Biometric Capture: Choose the location for biometric capture and document collection
4. Submit Application: Click "Submit" to proceed to the document submission page.
5. Upload Documents: Upload a copy of your ID and any other required documents.
6. Make Payment: Load your banking details and log in to your internet banking to finalise the transaction.
