Secret ballot: Professor Pierre De Vos explains what to expect

The long awaited decision has been made and Baleka Mbete has decided that the motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma will be by secret ballot.

A secret vote means that all members of the national assembly will vote against Zuma without the fear of losing their jobs or their lives for that matter. An open vote on the other hand means that their identities will not be protected when voting.

Professor Pierre De Vos explains that theoretically the secret ballotprevents MPs from having their arms twisted by their party member and having to be careful to appear supportive even if they are not.
