What will Ertugral do for Pirates?
Orlando Pirates have announced Muhsin Ertugral as their head coach. Is he a perfect fit for the Sea Robbers?
Some Kaizer Chiefs fans have been saying Orlando Pirates have recycled their reject but I think this is a good appointment.
The Turkish mentor is a coach who believes in attractive football which resonates with the tradition of the mighty Buccaneers.
During his time at Kaizer Chiefs he gave the youngsters like David Mathebula and Gert Schalkwyk a chance. Remember, he used to call them his twins and he would always bring them on at the same time in the second half.
He played an integral part in grooming and giving the Ajax Cape Town youngsters a chance during his time with the Urban Warriors. He used to call them his chickens. When Craig Rosslee took over that team it was like a well-oiled machine.
He has recently helped a bottom-of-the-table side in the shape of Mpumalanga Black Aces finish fifth on the log. The Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season Aubrey Modiba is from his team , which shows that he believes in youngsters.
The top goalscorer Collins Mbesuma is also from his team. He knows how to blend youth and experience.
Orlando Pirates is a team with great players and with a fantastic coach like Ertugral I believe they are set to be the team to watch next season. His proven PSL record speaks for itself.
The only thing that he will shun is showboating. Ertugral believer in the use of skills to beat opponents as opposed to just showing off.
Even one of his former players, Jimmy Tau says Ertugral trains his players in a way that ensures automatism and telepathic moves in a match situation. That requires fast-paced and perfectly-timed moves. No one must hold the ball unnecessarily because it can destroy the structure of the whole team.
Players like Thabo Rakhale and Thabo Qalinge must change the way they play. They've got the technical abilities to adapt to the new coach's tactics.
The only team that made a rushed decision was Mpumalanga Black Aces. How can you hire Eric Tinkler, a person who failed at Pirates with all those quality players? How do you expect him to succeed there?
