Rugby’s First Lady Motshidisi Mohono hits East Coast Breakfast
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Meet Motshidisi Mohono - Rugby’s First Lady and the sports queen you’ll want as your bestie!

Hold onto your jerseys because we’ve got a sports broadcasting superstar joining us on East Coast Breakfast!
The one and only Motshidisi ‘Mots’ Mohono is stepping in as our celebrity sports fill-in, and trust us when we say… you’re going to love her.
She’s sharp, hilarious and has more rugby knowledge than your uncle at a braai.
Before you meet her on air, let’s get you properly acquainted with Mots.
She’s the Queen of Rugby and a woman who’s been making waves both on and off our TV screens.
Who is Motshidisi Mohono?

Motshidisi, or Mots, as her fans and mates call her, was born and raised in Katlehong, Gauteng.
While most of us were still trying to figure out if we preferred netball or sitting in the shade at break time, Mots was already showing signs of being a born broadcaster - sharp, bubbly, and inquisitive.
She actually started out in radio, reading news and sports on UJFM, YFM and Metro FM, before making her TV debut on SuperSport.
She entered a competition called Lady Rugga back in 2011, came third, but still walked away with a broadcasting contract.
When you’re that good, you don’t need to win to win.
This one audition set me on course for the life I live now, and I’m forever grateful to my friends in the YFM Newsroom for daring me to do it 🙏🏾

No one believed in me more than that bunch. Nangoku 😁
Fast forward a few years and she’s the first woman to anchor a Rugby World Cup Final on local TV and has earned herself the title ‘First Lady of Rugby’.
No big deal (That’s an absolute BIG deal).
Five fun facts about Mots

- She’s obsessed with Vaseline. Seriously. Can’t go anywhere without it. She keeps it everywhere. Her bag. Her car. Her other bags. Everywhere.
- She absolutely loves food (like most of us) - except olives (again... like most of us).
- She’s a fashion queen. Power suits? Check. Snatched hairlines? Check. Statement earrings? Always.
- She’s loves a good conversation, especially ones that uplift and motivate. During the pandemic, she hosted “Mindful Moments” on Instagram, opening up about wellness, finances and overall wellbeing in all aspects.
- Her father was a huge fan and didn't allow anyone in the house to support another team. Now, she continues to fly that flag high. Mots lives and breathes the Khosi lifestyle. So at least she and Sky can agree on something.
Major Career Wins

Mots isn’t just about the vibes. She’s got the receipts too:
- She won 2018 SA Sports Awards Journalist of the Year (the first woman to scoop it!)
- She’s a two-time Momentum GSport4Girls TV Award winner
- Mots has covered every major rugby tournament you can name - from the 2019 Rugby World Cup to the British & Irish Lions Tour, URC, Champions Cup and beyond.

When she’s not covering scrums and tries, Mots is living her best life as a new mom.
She’s also an ambassador for Laureus Sport for Good South Africa, using her platform to uplift young people through sport.
Mots is bringing a perfect combo of expert analysis and pure fun.
She’s sharp, she’s warm, and she’s one of those people who makes you want to do better and laugh louder.
