Mpumalanga police hunt man bribing cops with fake notes

The boldest briber in SA is on the loose and he’s paying with nonsense.

Fake R200 notes

Move over Robin Hood; Mpumalanga’s got a new outlaw in town.

The man in question is bribing his way through traffic stops with what might be the worst counterfeit money in South African history.

Police have officially launched a manhunt for an unidentified suspect described as “charismatic with dangerous levels of confidence” after he allegedly slipped fake notes to at least seven traffic officers in the past two weeks… and somehow got away with it.

When we say “fake notes,” we mean notes so dodgy they make Monopoly money look legit.

According to reports, the counterfeit cash appears to be printed on what experts believe are leftover Shoprite flyers, complete with a badly sketched Nelson Mandela, a watermarked boerewors sausage, and the words “Legal Tenderish” proudly plastered in Comic Sans.

Yes, Comic Sans, because if you’re going to be a criminal, you may as well have a sense of humour.

One officer, speaking on condition of anonymity (probably to avoid roasting from his colleagues), confessed:

“He gave me a R200 note, I swear. It felt a bit light, but I thought maybe it was the new eco-friendly edition from the Reserve Bank.”

The suspect is said to be smooth-talking, unusually persuasive, and blessed with the kind of boldness usually reserved for that one uncle who insists on braaing during a storm.

Police urge anyone with information to come forward, but warn the public to be cautious.

This man reportedly has the ability to convince people that a piece of biltong-wrapped tin foil is legal currency.

In the meantime, traffic officers have been advised to double-check their bribes for signs of questionable quality.

It’s a bit contradictory if you think about it. It’s illegal for cops to take bribes but even more illegal for people to bribe with fake notes.

Only in South Ahhh…

Anyways, we’ll keep you updated as the hunt continues for South Africa’s new favourite con artist.
