You would never believe that these cool drink lids actually have a purpose.

As McDonald's fans, we often think we know everything there is to know about the fast-food giant.
However, a recent revelation about the lids of McDonald's drinks has shocked fans far and wide. It turns out that the three buttons on the lid have a purpose you wouldn't expect.

In a recent report found in IOL, it turns out that a different button is pushed to indicate what drink has been ordered.
Customers are just now discovering what the buttons and ridges on the top of the drink lids are for after making that discovery.
Each circular button is labelled with a different drink like 'regular' or 'diet' to show the person fulfilling the order of which drink to pour.

Unlike other lids, instead of having one hole, McDonald’s lids have three small buttons that many people never knew the purpose of.
However, those three small diamonds serve a very specific purpose.

The small buttons can be pressed inward to create a seal.
With this seal, customers can tighten the lid to avoid leaks and spills, which preserves the flavour of the drink and its temperature. How cool is that?
Now that you know there’s a hidden purpose behind the buttons on McDonald’s lids, you can enjoy your soda knowing that it’s been sealed securely.

This small detail goes a long way for McDonald’s customers, who are happy to take advantage of this useful feature.
Next time you're enjoying a refreshing beverage from McDonald's, make sure to press the buttons and enjoy the perfect sip without any pesky spills.
