Busted! A fake matric exam centre in KZN leaves adults duped and a former teacher in handcuffs
Well, here’s a plot twist no one asked for…
A former teacher in KwaZulu-Natal has just flunked out of life after being caught running a bogus matric exam centre in Pietermaritzburg.
A whole fake school, with fake exam papers and very real school fees.
The wannabe headmaster operated out of a converted room in a residential house on Innes Avenue.
He promised adults a second chance at getting their matric certificates. All it took was some cash and, apparently, zero accreditation.
According to Mi7 National Group’s Colin David, the man set up desks, a whiteboard, and an exam timetable. The only absent “student” was legitimacy.
According to The South African, when police and education officials raided the house, they found a group of adults (aged between 23 and 50) deep in concentration, scribbling answers on what turned out to be fake exam papers.
Wait - the plot thickens. None of them knew the exams were worthless. Talk about wasting ink, and BIC pens are so expensive. How inconsiderate.
Authorities recovered over 100 completed fake papers, dodgy admission letters, forged signatures, and a receipt book documenting payments from the unsuspecting students.
The suspect (believed to be a former teacher) now faces charges of fraud, forgery, uttering, and theft by false pretences.
The operation was a joint effort between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, police intelligence from the uMgungundlovu district, and officers from Mountain Rise Police Station.
Investigations are still ongoing, but let this be a lesson.
If someone’s offering you a matric exam in a house down the road with no school badge in sight - run.
At the very least, ask for their Umalusi accreditation.
On the bright side, at least there’ll be a new teacher in prison; to help his fellow inmates further their education.
