Wednesday morning on Darren, Keri, and Sky means it's a Prof Tulio morning! He joins us from KRISP at UKZN on the phone to share everything related to COVID-19 and vaccinations globally. Prof Tulio is one of the world’s top virologists, virus hunters, and bioinformaticians. He is world-renowned, having appeared on CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera.

So, today we kicked the show off on a quirky note with Profesor Tulio following Sky's visit to his house last night to deliver a gift from the team. He was happy to have received such fun and funny gifts, especially the Darren Maule socks.

We kicked off the session with him with an important question that many people are curious about:

How many people worldwide and in South Africa have died after taking the vaccine?

So many people are anxious to get vaccinated because they experienced a death that they link to the person getting vaccinated. Prof Tulio shares with us in this podcast the number of people so far, including how they reach those statistics at the end of every day.

Another important question today is whether the vaccines have been tested on animals. He agrees that they have been used on the animals and continues explaining why this was done and how the results have helped research teams forward.

Are you perhaps in quarantine as you read this? It could be because you have COVID-19 or because you were in contact with someone who has the disease. But how different do you guys have to quarantine and what is the protocol for each person?

The podcast below will bring light onto something we definitely feel like we 'know enough' about.

In today's questions, someone from the UKZN Medical campus also sent the Prof an interesting question. It asked whether all the participants at KRISP are vaccinated. You will be pleased to know they all are fully vaccinated researchers.

You might also want to know if you tested positive after vaccination; was it from the vaccine's antibodies?

Take a listen as he answers all of these questions:
