Ellenborough Lewis the koala put down after severe burn injuries

Ellenborough Lewis was rescued by a woman during the New South Wales bushfires, but the story ultimately ended in heartbreak. The decision came from the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie to put him down.

In a heartbreaking Facebook post, the hospital announced its decision.
The heroic woman, Toni Doherty, took off her shirt and was recorded running into an out-of-control bushfire in Long Flat to save Lewis.

The koala was taken to the hospital where he was treated for severe burns to his feet, chest, and stomach. Unfortunately, his condition took a turn for the worse and the decision was made to put him down on Tuesday.
