1. Bill Gates praises Prof Salim Abdool Karim and his wife

Professors Salim Abdool Karim and his wife, Quarraisha, have been hailed as "heroes" by Bill Gates. This was for their efforts in combating HIV/AIDS and COVID-19. Gates said that the couple are two of the most respected HIV/AIDS researchers in the world and that they shaped the world’s response to the pandemic.

2. Up to 15 years in jail for forwarding certain WhatsApp message

Sharing messages which promote violence or damage to property could land South Africans behind bars when the new Cybercrimes Bill is signed into law by President Cyril Ramaphosa. This piece of legislation is one step closer to redefining digital safety and security in South Africa. The bill includes unsolicited intimate images.

3. Nigella coins new term

Just in case you missed it, this week on Nigella Lawson’s 'Cook, Eat, Repeat' food series, a new term was coined and microwaves will never be the same again! She calls a microwave a “mee-cro wah-vay”. Darren Maule has been doing this kind of thing for years...

4. Swearing is good for your mental health

According to a new study, swearing is actually beneficial to your mental health. Of those surveyed, 28% said that swearing helped them stay motivated during the UK’s second lockdown, while 41% said they sometimes swore at themselves to boost enthusiasm. The study also found that 36% of the app’s users swear to reduce stress, and 27% said swearing helps them feel better on a bad day.

5. Mkhize declares COVID-19 second wave in SA

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has declared that South Africa has now entered into a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He says there has been an alarming increase in infections. Mkhize added that four provinces are the biggest contributors to the surge - Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng. We will speak to the KZN Department Of Health head of Department, Dr. Sandile Shabalala, between now and 7AM!
