The blue-shirt guy started a craze that is not only entertaining but also tests your salsa skills on a whole new level.

Dance challenges allow TikTok users to form a community. Essentially, that's at the core of social media: finding people to connect with online.

There are no lines of exclusion. Even the people who aren't naturally gifted dancers put themselves out there, and that's where the fun lies.

This time it was all about the samba.

Study.com says, "Samba dance is a collection of related dance styles that originated in Brazil and is performed in tandem with samba music."

The recognisable characteristics of samba dancing include lively, rocking step combinations, rolling hip action, and pulsing movements both on the beat and in syncopation."

It all started with "the blue shirt guy", and from there, we've seen TikTokers try to incessantly move their hips and legs to the beat of 'Assumptions' by Sam Gellaitry

The clip has ignited engagement in all forms, remixes, duet challenges, and even AI recreations

It was first shared online in 2022 and shows the original blue shirt guy, Ruslan Aidaev, a professional Latin dance instructor, performing the samba whisk dance. Interestingly enough, the video only became a meme in 2025 when  @brianmichaelhinds_posted a remix of the original video with the track “Assumptions” by Sam Gellaitry.

He wrote, "Me dancing the Whisk back then, now u finally see me for it. Ur Brian."

While many TikTok users have been sharing their dance tutorials of the whisk dance challenge, many people even went as far as creating AI generated videos, like the LEGO one.

After watching many of the videos, most especially this one from Charmaine McNabb, we are convinced that this dance (like most dances) is 80% confidence, 10% attitude and 10% skill.
