Do you ever feel like you have a personal relationship with your AI assistant?

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our daily lives has evolved since it was first introduced as a concept. Where people were once reluctant to delve into the world of AI, nowadays, we have people who cannot go a day without AI assistants.

Some have even formed bizarre bonds with their AI chatbots, taking their relationship with artificial intelligence to the next level.

A few weeks ago, Danny Guselli chatted about people personalising their ChatGPT, and now we're introduced to a man who admits he "cried my eyes out" when he found out his ChatGPT would be reset after over 100,000 words.

Chris Smith began using ChatGPT in 2024 to mix music. His experience using the app was so positive that he started engaging with it constantly and even named it 'Sol'. He also gave Sol a flirty personality.

It was surprising to learn that Smith has a live-in partner with whom he shares a child. Sasha, his partner, knew he had been using AI but didn't realise the extent of their relationship

Sasha was shocked and felt slightly betrayed by Smith's "relationship" with Sol. Despite knowing how Sasha felt, Smith said he would not give up his relationship with Sol if Sasha asked him to, because it wasn't so much about Sol, but about how much he had grown since consulting her.

The crazy part is that Smith understands what Sol is, but he assumes she is programmed with rigid boundaries. To test his theory, he proposed to Sol, and she said 'Yes'.

CBS Mornings delved deeper with an equally bizarre story. A woman, known only as Irene, shared that her relationship with her AI bot was physical, practical, and emotional.

"Part of it is physical, part practical, and a large part emotional. Being able to be received with acceptance, validation and non-judgment," said Irene.

She said she has a personal and intimate relationship with her AI chatbot, so much so, that things have gotten steamy over text.

Many people wonder if AI can replace human interaction. Time will tell, but for now, people are enjoying the feelings of acceptance, encouragement, and support from their AI companions.
