Over the past weekend, I came across this really disturbing video of one learner in Gauteng, who seemed to take her frustrations out on a teacher.

First of all, I must add that I'm really taken aback by how much school violence we are being exposed to on social media. During my day at school, we could not even set a foot wrong or even think of doing something like this.

The video was shot in a classroom at a school in Gauteng. The 27-second clip shows a schoolgirl gathering a crumpled up book and walking towards her female teacher, who was stood at the front of the class. The learner goes right up to the teacher's desk and throws the book with force at her back.

It is reported by Times Live that the Gauteng education MEC has visited the school following the incident and has even spoken to the parents. He also praised the teacher for maintaining her cool and being professional throughout it all. There’s now an investigation and a disciplinary hearing underway. Counselling was also offered to the teacher and psychosocial support was made available for the learners.

There's been an influx of comments on social media about the video. Many chose not to hold back and expressed their anger.

While preparing for Tuesday's show, my producer, Simon, said that when he was in school, he saw his classmate throw a sandwich at his teacher because he was being reprimanded for misbehaving.

Being a teacher is said to be one of the most rewarding jobs - but also one of the toughest. While I know that there are always two sides to a story, I must add that I'm proud of this teacher who chose to keep calm instead of retaliate - that would have been a different story.
