Umlazi teacher suspended over corporal punishment incident

The deputy principal at Okumhlophe Secondary School in Umlazi - south of Durban has been suspended for allegedly using corporal punishment.
A video clip that was circulated widely on social media shows a woman hitting pupils with a cane.
The KZN Department of Education is visiting the school this morning.
Officials will also address pupils and teachers on the matter.

HOD, Vusumuzi Nzama says charges have been laid against the deputy principal - who also teaches some classes.
"We feel strongly that there is a need for us to suspend her. She has been suspended and will be charged. There's going to be a hearing very soon but she's already on suspension," he says.
