South Africa is unfortunately known for its crime levels as much as it is known for its beauty.

Hardly a day goes by without something related to criminal activity being featured in the news.

So much so that it sometimes taints our view of our fantastic country.

We thought crime in South Africa was bad until we heard about this epic trail of an alleged car thief who drove through a shopping mall in Australia.

A video that has been circulating on social media shows the shocking moment an alleged car thief drove through the Northland Shopping Centre in Melbourne, Australia.

On 18 June, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Giriwa May, allegedly drove through the glass door entrance of the shopping centre to evade the police.

According to a report by 9 News, "After smashing through doors into Northland, the car was captured on video smashing through another set of glass doors at the other end, where it left the centre, almost flattening a bollard on the way out."

Investigations revealed that May used an electronic key reprogramming tool to steal the vehicle. According to the authorities, the electronic key was used to steal the Land Cruiser without the vehicle's keys.

The Northland Shopping Centre seemed to be the centre of buzz and activity. Just a day later, a fire broke out in one of the stores, forcing the centre to evacuate shoppers for the second time in 24 hours.
