When it comes to ordering edible, consumable items for a special occasion, we always, always recommend that you go with someone that you know. A trusted supplier, who has a reputation of strong reviews behind their name.

Unfortunately, it can be a tricky to distinguish between a legitimately talented baker or someone who is trying it out "to see if the shoe fits then I will pursue this business as my side hustle".

The reason can be two fold, many people who watch the food network channel think they can bake, but it is definitely an art form and not everyone can do what they set out to do initially. It takes time to perfect the art. The second part is that with social media and the internet, it's easy to mask yourself up as a talented cake supplier.

This was the case for one woman who was ordering a cake for a baby shower. She took to Twitter to ask for help finding someone who could help out at short notice, as the supplier didn't meet the brief. That's putting it gently...

Check out the post she put out on Twitter that shows the cake she ordered and was expecting, and then what she actually got...

"Guys, I need someone who has cakes already made in Cape Town for a baby shower tomorrow cus lo wenze ikaka (she made sh***. WHAT I ORDERED, you’re not ready for what I got.” said Thando Mfundisi, a former contestant on 'Idols SA'.

The pics that she shared of the actual cake can be seen below. Warning, don't take a sip of anything before looking at the pic, it may result in an outburst which may cause you to spray the contents of your drink on your smart device...

This was actually a local bakery that Thando tried out. We are absolutely shocked at the world of difference between what she ordered and what she got. It makes us think, though, did the bakery believe that their cake resembled the initial order at all? Or was there something making them loopy in their bakery...

Our advice would be to get recommendations from friends or family when you have a special occasion. Not everyone can bake a beautifully-crafted cake, but almost anyone can download a pic online and use it on their portfolio.

We are still waiting with anticipation to find out how Thando's cake story ended, as are many other tweeps who have asked her for an update. She posted that evening that she had been helped, so we hope it all ended well...
