We chatted with Carol about the launch of The Comeback and what it means to her:

Q: In one sentence, describe The Comeback with Carol Ofori?
Carol: It is a podcast that will inspire you and remind you that your life is worth living, no matter the setbacks, because everyone gets to come back!
Q: What do you love most about The Comeback?
Carol: I love that it features everyday South Africans, the people you walk past in the mall, the people you see around, and you don't realise that these people are fighting wars and are coming out on the other side. These stories are about everyday South Africans discussing the challenges they've gone through.
Q: What kinds of stories will feature in the first season?
Carol: The first season is really exciting because it’s so varied. We’ve got stories of people who were retrenched and had to rebuild from the ground up. We’ve got health journeys - where someone’s own body failed them, and they had to fight to keep going.
There are deeply personal stories too, like surviving miscarriage, or having to put your dreams on hold because of poverty. And of course, there are stories of surviving violent crime, like Jes Foord’s (our launch episode).
But what all of these guests have in common is that they didn’t stop at survival. They found a way to come back stronger—whether by sharing their truth, helping others, or simply refusing to give up.
Q: How is The Comeback with Carol Ofori different to The Carol Ofori Podcast?
Carol: The Carol Ofori Podcast cast a wide net - it was a mix of different conversations, themes, and genres that I found interesting at the time.
But The Comeback is focused. It’s all about comeback stories - people who’ve gone through incredibly tough experiences and come out stronger. These are stories of grit, growth, and vulnerability. That’s what makes it so powerful.
Q: What did you learn from your guests while recording?
Carol: What stood out for me is that you have to find the will to fight for your own life. No one else can do it for you. Every single guest reminded me how important it is to keep showing up for yourself -- every day.
You’ve got to believe your glass is half full, even when it feels empty. And in those hard moments, remind yourself that you’ve seen it full before - and you can get there again. The key is to never give up.
Q: Why should someone listen to The Comeback with Carol Ofori?
Carol: The Comeback is that little push we all need sometimes. If you’re feeling stuck or like life just keeps knocking you down no matter how hard you try, this podcast will remind you that you’re not alone — and that even the strongest people face tough seasons.
It’s inspiring, it’s real, and it’s a reminder to keep chasing your dreams, keep showing up for yourself, and believe in your power to rise.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share about the podcast?
Carol: I’m incredibly proud of this podcast and of the team that helped bring it to life. It’s been a year in the making, and everything about it was intentional, right down to the yellow mic pop shield. (Yes, we debated that!)
The guests were chosen with care, not just for their stories, but for their courage in sharing them. We pushed through tight shoot days, big emotions, and lots of planning to create something that feels really special.
We spent a long time figuring out what to call it, what our focus would be, and how to make it truly meaningful. I think Mzansi is going to connect with it. I know I do.
