#PetParenting: Producer Rory shares tips to keep your pets safe in the heat

If we're feeling lethargic and drained, how do you think our furry friends are feeling?

The heat has been less than easy on us over the past couple of weeks.

It almost feels like the weather gave us a break during Christmas and New Year's - and then decided to come in hard as we started to return to work.

Couple the heat with the loadshedding schedule and, boom, you're all set for a moody, sweaty, and uncomfortable day.

We can talk, or not talk, about how the weather makes us feel, but our furry family members have to bear it all and, somehow, we know it's worse for them.

This is why we asked our Dog Dad aka Executive Producer Rory for some handy tips on how to help our pets stay cool during the heat.

Not to mention safe. The heat that we are currently experiencing can be dangerous for both our pets and us. So, it is best to take precautions.

  • Make sure there is always more than enough fresh water available – kept in the shade if possible.
  • If your pets are left outside, please try to have some sort of cover / shade available for them.
  • Ice blocks in their water bowls is another good idea.
  • Consider giving your dogs frozen treats during Summer, this is what Rory does.

Therefore, keeping their paws cool with a bucket of cold water is advisable.

Also, if you walk your dog, try to do it very early in the morning or later in the day when it gets cooler.
