Durban does have a way of showing off during the winter, with our abundant sunny skies...

Durbanites have a hidden winter advantage that the rest of the country doesn't have, and we might be taking for granted–the weather.

While our beautiful and bountiful province is known for its warm weather throughout the year, Durban, in particular, doesn't experience the same icy cold temperatures as other parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the rest of the country does.

While Durban winter still brings cold nights and early mornings chills, the rest of the day is usually bright and sunny.

This doesn't mean that we don't feel cold or that we don't have winter clothes eagerly waiting to be worn.

Last year, we saw a Cape Town man vacation in Durban during the winter. He was pleasantly surprised by our warm weather that he took a dip in the ocean. Something you won't always find Durbanites doing during the winter months.

Recently, another Cape Town resident, Wian West, also expressed his surprise at KZN's warmer winter weather.

West posted a video telling the rest of the country that KZN doesn't know what winter is and invited Mzansi to explore our sunny, blue skies and warmer weather.

What’s winter?

The people of KZN were happy to share their insight. One person said, "The actual winter in KZN is in the house."

"KZN winter is warm to people from outside of KZN but to us it's freezing."

"As a KZN Boytjie, I can confirm we don’t have winter here. We have slightly colder mornings and evenings…"

"KZN is huge, Durban is warm even in winter, cause in Newcastle it's cold and gets even snowy in winter, and it's in KZN."

West noticed people complaining about the cold in KZN, and this is his response, a video courtesy of TikTok
