Eating a healthy and nutritious meal can be difficult with the cost of living.

But as we enter an era of time ripe with illness, it is important to take time to think about what you are eating; as the saying goes, 'you are what you eat'.

Living in sin with food can be something that catches up to you in due time. So, instead of waiting for that time to come, why not try to adopt a different way of living?

Recently, we have seen many content creators have a go at meal planning. Meal planning isn't a new concept, but it can be something that either works for you or not.

Most people like variation in their diet so when they think of meal planning, they automatically assume the same old boring meals for the whole week. Bleh!

In essence, that is the crux of meal planning. Make a stock standard meal that can be packed into containers for the week and enjoyed for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Check out this site that offers a free meal plan when you sign up and a printable grocery list.

If we have to apply what we have learned from some of the pro meal planners, we would say it could be a great way to cut down on your food costs while also assisting you to eat a healthier diet.

Healthy eating is going to be as budget friendly as you make it. If your version of healthy eating is salmon on the daily with organic quinoa, edamame beans and Fiji water then your wallet is going to be burning. You can easily budget some low calorie meals that are fat loss friendly that won’t make a dent in your grocery spend. This meal prep lunch cost me less than R200 and it will feed me for days 😮‍💨 Here’s what you need: 400g of wholewheat pasta (yes that means you will even have some left over) 500g chicken breast 40g rocket (I bought two because they were on special and only ended up using one) 200g of baby Rosa tomatoes 180g basil pesto dressing You will also need some pantry staples like olive oil and some spices for this recipe 😊 You can find plenty recipes just like these on my IHC platform. With hundreds of recipes you can create yourself a meal plan from scratch that’s both fat loss and budget friendly ♥️ Link in bio to check it out! There's no doubt that there is some truth to saving on meals when you take the time to meal prep, but is it for everyone? We cannot say for certain.

After all, as South Africans, we are known to mix things up, having the same lunch for a whole week might be a bit bland for some.

We think that if you are trying to lead a healthier life while also staying within a budget, meal prepping can be a win-win.
