Classic nursery rhyme gets trigger warning

We live in a time when everything is being questioned, even the nursery rhymes we grew up listening to.

A classic children's nursery rhyme that's been sung for nearly 300 years may soon carry a trigger warning for children aged three and up.

GB News morning show recently shared a video in which English journalist Dawn Neesom discussed the bizarre trigger warning placed on the popular nursery rhyme 'Hickory Dickory Dock'.

According to the broadcaster, a play in London placed the warning on 'Hickory Dickory Dock' because they felt the cat chasing the mouse would trigger children over three.

While the lyrics don't mention a cat, it implies that the mouse ran up the clock to escape a cat...

According to The Irish Sun, the theatre producers felt they needed to include the trigger warning because some young kids might be frightened at the idea of the cat chasing after the mouse.

Interestingly enough, the Reader's Digest shared eight children's nursery rhymes that are racist in 2024. "While it’s important to build your library with excellent children’s books, it’s equally important to protect your child’s developing mind from racist narratives," they said.
