It's a few days until we wish our kids well and send them off to school.

And the preparations seem to be never ending at times. Which is why we asked our daytime diva for some tips on how to prepare for back to school in the best way.

She was more than willing to share some valuable tips, with the most important one being - do your school shopping when school closes.

This may sound unappealing to many, especially if you look forward to the back-to-school specials.

But you have to factor in what's most important to you. Peace of mind closer to school opening, or saving a rand or two?

Up at two, since the kids grow so fast, check their uniforms a week before school starts. This way you know whether you need to make alterations or get a new uniform.

Get the kids back to their school routines at least 2-3 days before school starts.

You will thank us for this one, because as much as they want to stay in holiday mode, they don't realise how tired they are until they start school.

Use this weekend as your test run, get everything together. Make sure books are covered, shoes are polished, and bags are packed.

Then get the kids mentally ready. Start communicating with them that they are starting school soon. It's important that they feel confident going into a new year, new grade.

It will definitely set the tone for the year.

And, lastly, on the first day of school, wake up earlier than you would on any other school day.

Everyone is anxious about getting back to school, including some parents. So, getting the day started early means getting to school early and avoiding any anxiety.
