American woman asks if she should move to KZN

"Should we move to KZN, did I make the wrong choice?"

It's not often that tourists choose KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) over the Western Cape, particularly Cape Town. While each province has their unique scenic treasures, Cape Town tends to be favoured.

To any Capetonian who has ever tried to pick a fight with a Durbanite on which city is better, we have just one video to show you...

An American woman, Kourtney Jade, shared how she and her family moved to South Africa. While there were many reasons for their decision to emigrate, one of the main reasons was to one day have to explain to her sons how they should act around the police as African Americans.

Jade revealed they had moved to South Africa within a year and decided to settle in Cape Town.

She has been thoroughly enjoying her time in Cape Town. Part of her integration into the province involved travelling the city and learning more about how the people of Cape Town live. After walking through Khayelitsha, she made a bold claim on social media, saying there are no 'homeless' people in Cape Town.

That may be true of some of Cape Town's streets, but it doesn't quite represent the whole truth.

In June 2025, she visited KZN with her family; from the looks of it, she was on KZN's South Coast when she began rethinking her decision to stay in Cape Town.

In her videos, many Americans living in South Africa comment about their experiences. In one video, a fellow American said, "I’m an American living in KZN, and I’m NOT leaving."

"Perfect choice, highly recommend eNanda, so welcoming and so friendly."

"Just coming from your husband's post. I am a Capetonian living in Durban. I love Cape Town, but I found my success in Durban I also feel it's a better place to raise children. Cape Town is a beautiful holiday destination. Living in Durban and visiting Cape Town is the perfect balance."

"Durban is a warmest [sic] place to be you never go wrong, Im originally [from] here Durban I lived in many provinces, when I'm out of Durban I always tell, yeah it is nice there to but Durban is the best [sic]."
