V for Vasectomy: East Coast Radio dispels vasectomy myths
Updated | By East Coast Radio
In what has been described as a first for radio, East Coast Radio has given four men an opportunity to get a vasectomy.
What started off as something fun and interesting, evolved into something completely unexpected.
The men of KZN received the news live on-air during Carol Ofori’s show on Monday, 28 February 2022.
The announcement brought to a close an emotional journey that began on Valentine’s Day. East Coast Radio chose to celebrate V-Day by dispelling myths surrounding vasectomies.
Dr Shiven Ramkissoon joined Carol in studio on Valentine’s Day to clear up any confusion about vasectomies. He noted that men could also take on the responsibility of family planning.
Carol Ofori and Dr. Shiven Ramkissoon announced to KZN their mission in sharing the love this Valentine's month on Valentine's Day. But it was no ordinary act of love, it was something that we rarely associate with love and most especially Valentine's Day.
East Coast Radio asked couples to send in their family planning stories and why they would like the men in their lives to get a vasectomy. The response was amazing, with scores of couples sharing heartwarming stories of love, loss, and pain.
Four couples were shortlisted for a chance to win a vasectomy surgery with Dr Ramkissoon.
They all arrived in studio on Monday to find out which two couples’ lives would be changed forever. What they didn’t know was that they were all declared winners as Dr Ramkissoon decided to give all four couples the vasectomy.
Each and every one of their stories were worthy of the prize. One man revealed that his wife had been diagnosed with epilepsy and had two high risk births.
The delivery of their second child was particularly frightening as 10 minutes before the wife gave birth, she suffered a placental abruption. Luckily, the couple was at the hospital, and everything went well.
They welcomed a beautiful baby boy.

East Coast Radio wishes the couples all the best as they prepare to undergo this life-changing surgery.
