WATCH - Couta fishing action
Updated | By Andre Bloem
I failed in my bid to catch a couta off Westbrook last week.
Kirk Newton from GoFish magazine and I were hoping to add a king mackerel to the 9kg Natal snoek I caught off Umhlanga back in January of this year.
We had both live mackerel and live maasbanker and yet all I ended up catching was a hammerhead shark and a garfish.
This coming weekend I will be hoping for better at the Safire Insurance King of the Sea contest.
The annual fishing classic will again be hosted by the Pumula Hotel on the KZN south coast.
I caught a 4kg bonito during this event last year and this year I am hoping to catch either a couta or a yellowfin tuna.
I hope to have some nice photos to share from Pumula next week.
In the interim let me share some couta fishing footage shot in the USA.
Captain Blair Wiggins returns in a couta pursuit off Florida.
I had two tuna taken by sharks during my King of the Sea debut in 2014 and last year also did not score points as bonito are not one of the target species.
Fish to score points at the contest this year are couta, yellowfin tuna, dorado, wahoo and Natal snoek.
