Mkhize highlights concern over demand for beds, oxygen and more
Updated | By Andrew Robertson
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says they are concerned about the 'huge' demand for hospital beds, oxygen and the need for additional staff support.
He says the department's records show that in KwaZulu Natal, the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape and Gauteng - infections have exceeded the peak of the first wave.
"KZN has already gone up twice in the number of patients who have been admitted as compared to what it was before."
Mkhize says they are under a lot of pressure because the staff have been fighting COVID-19 "And at a certain point we would like to see them resting but the surge returned even before many of them were able to rest."

"And so the level of exhaustion is noticeable on our staff," he adds.
Mkhize addressed Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Health yesterday, on issues about the country's healthcare services.
